October PUG Meeting.

Hello Portland PUG Attendees,

In addition to the Pictage Parnter Conference recap, we'll be launching our first in a series of presentations by our very own attendees. This month, Serena Davidson will be presenting information gathered by University of Washington on trends in the wedding industry across the US as well as here in our own region.

Finally, the topic of food! Please bring your favorite snack to munch on and/or drinks to wash those snacks down with. Use your imagination! (within reason of course...hah)

Serena Davidson photo selected for 2007 Bravo! Guide Cover

Super exciting news! I just got word from Terri Baranick at Bravo! Publications that one of my wedding images has been selected from thousands of entries to be printed on the cover of next years book! YAY! Can't wait to see it when they are released this winter.

Hey there! So a while back I mentioned that everyone should post bios so we have a great reference while getting to know each other. ...and then I never did it, until now.

About 6 years ago I was living with a bunch of sports nuts...which was fun, but just not something I could get into 24 hours a day like the others. For as long as I can remember, I've been blown away by great sunsets, cool waterfalls and anything else about nature that makes one stop in awe of it's beauty. I wanted to learn how to capture those scenes and publish them for others to see...so naturally, the best escape from a home which might as well have been made on the set of Sportscenter, was Borders where I would pick up instructional photography books and collections of work by famous photographers. It was simply an interest at that point, but fast became an obsession. I quickly ran out of books and started reading online forums.

Anyway, my family caught on and had me shoot my cousins' weddings. That's when I found photographing people to be much more rewarding than photographing nature. As it turns out, one of my cousins worked for David Jay in Santa Barbara and I tuned into the OSP forum where I learned that being successful as a photographer wasn't impossible...it was just a matter of using good business sense. So in November of 2005 I officially started a business shooting weddings and it's been great so far. It's something I do on the side while it picks up enough to replace my current income in the financial industry. My hope is that by the spring of 2007, I'll be able to do it full time.

You'll notice that I don't have a picture up...and I know of some others that don't have pictures for this use either...so watch your email for a PUG photo shoot proposal!
